Letters: On Gates, Obama should admit he was wrong

It is hard to admit when we are wrong. I do not know of anyone who truly enjoys admitting that they made a mistake or said something they should not have. I remember the Fonz from "Happy Days" -- he could not even get the words out of his mouth.
I am surprised, however, that our president would not apologize completely for recent comments regarding Henry Gates and Sgt. James Crowley. Now, I was not there, but neither was the president. To say that a veteran police officer acted "stupidly" was, well, stupid!
Then he gets out a bigger spoon to stir the pot with a statement that says he could have "calibrated his words differently." What? If you can't get the simple things right, how are you ever going to get the hard things like employment, health care, etc. right?
Maybe a better question is "Why is the president of the United States commenting on this in the first place? The police department and Mr. Crowley deserve to hear "I'm sorry." The only act of stupidity is our president getting involved in the first place.
